Donkeys remain a familiar site throughout the farm lands of Ireland even though the advent of motorised agricultural machinery means there’s little practical value for Irish farmers to keep donkeys. They were however a significant feature and pardon the pun – asset – to Irish rural life in the early years and these days many farmers in Ireland keep a couple of donkeys as pets and for nostalgic reasons harking back to the days of old.
